The origin of Bharath Beedi Works goes back to the
year 1930 in the town Karkala.
Mr. B. Manjunath Pai, who was seventeen years old then, rented out a
small shop in front of the Venkataramana Temple. Sri Manjunath Pai
rolled beedies himself by night and sold them during the day, in and
around Karkala. The only capital he had to speak of was thirty rupees
and a bicycle. |

|
Due to the supreme confidence and unshaken faith Mr. Manjunath Pai
had in himself and his capability and the sincere hard work he put
in, he has built this company, bit by bit, to make it what it is
today.
Today Bharath Beedi Works Pvt. Ltd rolls out over 60 million
beedies a day.The company employs around 50,000 workers directly
and an equal number indirectly.
From the residents of Karkala, who were the sole recipients of the
Thirty Brand Beedies, the marketing network spans the entire
nation - besides Karnataka the neighbouring states of Goa,
Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, telangana and Tamil Nadu, as well as
Gujarath, Rajasthan, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab
and Haryana. |
