Beedies are essentially a legacy of Indian culture.It is known to exist for nearly a century now.During the period of its infancy, the manufacture was localized to then South Kanara District of the erstwhile Madras Presidency.
Though surface transport network was literally absent in those days, the raw materials like Tendu leaves, a product of wild growth found only in the States of Madhya Pradesh and Orissa, & Tobacco from Nippani of the erstwhile Bombay Presidency used to find their way to the district of South Kanara (a distance of nearly 1,000 miles, a tall order for the day) for the manufacture of beedies. The market then, was limited to Madras Presidency that, in course of time, spread to other parts of the country.
Beedies were never known outside, until, Bharath Beedi Works Private Limited ventured successfully in introducing the same to the outside world, in the year 1975. The 100 percent agro based feature of beedies, the inimitable taste of the product and maintenance of quality, made it acceptable in every part of the world and the market for "THIRTY BRAND BEEDIES", the product of Bharath Beedi Works Pvt.
